How to Write for Children
Many ideas on writing for children are wrong. Let's approach the perspective of the wrong ideas (not-to-dos), keep in circulation. Here are two p.m.-to-dos are not related to the proposals for what to.
1. Never write "cute." You write for children who are more intelligent, sophisticated, and clever, as most were adults than children. Television, computers and the Internet have changed the world for children inaugurated today. Cutesy not interested. They want and deserve excellent substance andwriting.
2. Never speak or write to the children. No one likes to have protected or anybody condescending. Baby talk is a major no-no. " After Eugi Foster, in "Ten Myths About Writing for Kids" should not be underestimated, writers have the opportunity to children to learn new words. "The best way is to expand the Kids on the vocabulary of the encounter with new words in an attractive setting." Writers should create interesting language, strong visual images and in a mannerthat children can understand words and phrases out of context, or simply by the person reading the story.
3. Never preaching. Children read for entertainment, not to another lesson with which they have to beat over the head. If a story or a book or a moral lesson for the children, they should be out of action and character development of conflict. The "moral" should never be uttered. The writer's first duty is to tell a good story, create the exciting and entertaining way. EachLesson was subtly delivered.
Write4Kids.Com States to "Your job as a writer: entertain. If you tell your story a message through the plot and characters, not from a" moral "tacked to the end."
4. Never write a book without a plot. Even young children like a story a beginning, middle and end it as the story makes sense. Even Dr. Seuss' rhyming stories had a plan.
5. Avoid any serious or controversial issues. Children are bombardedwith serious issues every day, often without understanding them. Television and video games and web surfing sites, smoother children with the tragedy, even if the death and violence do not affect them personally. A story that leads the points such as death, and addresses the issue in the realistic and sensitive way, actually help children with the realities of the world to encounter. Often the plot of a book is the door is open for parents to disturb answer questions that theirChildren.
6. Do not let adults carry away "the victory." Lands need of the young protagonists. Of course, adults are required and their assistance may be required. However, the solution should not be grown to save a wonderful, but the character or the character of the solution of problems.
7. Never use talking animals wrong or write in clichés. Originality is required when writing something, and that means when writing for children. Every sign, especially talking animals, mustthree-dimensional, fully developed animals than like human. Quirks, flaws, motivations and personalities should be seen, not flat, clichéd talking creatures.
Often, when a novice writer includes animals as characters in a story pop cliches: the ugly duckling, which seems to be a swan, timid creatures, who suddenly bold enough to save the day is, moral-filled stories that show it's ok to be different.
After Write4Kids.com againwith talking animals is not all bad. "It is important that your animals have completely developed, unique personalities and characteristics." Children are not different in character, are the stereotypes, even when the animals.
As with any advice, common sense must be generously applied. As with the point last week ever with talking animals, which was coupled with the writing in cliches. Often, novice writers write in clichés in the use of talking animals asDevelopment of the characters and action, as needed. Nor enables adults to step and make everything good does not mean that adults can not be part of history and perhaps even the solution. However, adults should not be cleared to a problem without the contribution of the child and great help.
Now for the other seven points:
8. Do not believe all the stories of the children must have a small child in it. Children prefer reading about a child (or animal), a little older than she, rather than ayounger child as the main character. A Children's Story can even character a few years older, as long as the story from the perspective of a child and the level of understanding is told. After Eugi Foster, "Ten Myths About Writing for Kids", "When in doubt, err on the side of older, more mature and sophisticated."
9. Do not use rhyme, is recommended unless used properly. Children will enjoy rhyme, alliteration and rhythmic sentences in books, but with each of these devicesincompetent is a major no-no. Writing a story in which poetry is not as easy as with prose. If rhyme lines or require convoluted wording is clumsy, the story is not good. Remember, stories for children must be well written.
10. Do not illustrate your own book. This point is because of the requirements for the mapping applies to the right quality for printing. Certain forms of art do not reproduce as well as others. The images do not onlybe of high resolution, they must be colorful and appealing. Most publishers will not accept a children's story, which is already represented. They prefer to use their own artist for the job.
11. Never think writing for children is simple. Some people believe that they could write for children because they have kids. My with a heart that does not mean I can do open-heart surgery on (yes, I know this example is extreme, but perhaps the idea can be understood). Just because a writerChildren do not automatically mean that he knows how to write for them. Writing of any kind takes training, starting with reading the kind of literature is written to investigate, to write like for a certain audience, and the ideas in paragraph 13 below.
In fact, writing for children is more difficult than writing for adults. One reason for this is the story (plot, characters, conflict, and action) must be concise and precise, as is the length of a children's story is shorter than aAdults.
12. Do not think that is not the research needed to write books for children. If nothing has been written about the specific needs, a writer literally his facts straight. False information in a children's story is just as bad or worse, as if in a story or a book for adults.
Another type of investigation need to do is a writer, children's books on current research. Much time should be spent in the fields of children of libraries and bookstores, not just toBooks, but they read.
13. Never write before you know how to write. I have repeatedly pointed out that stories of children should be well written first. Those who wanted to write for children, you must first know how to write. Some ways to learn, are taking courses, reading books, joining a writing group and participation in conferences (including professional online conferences are available). Chasing a publishing contract is at the end of a long journey.
14. Do not submit manuscripts, are not ready. After the story is well written, the work begins. Every story, or a book to errors: spelling, grammar, sentence structure, tenses, etc. Mythical editors do not have a manuscript of the determination to go or correction of problems for the author unless they pay an editor to do so or unless the author is someone already famous. A writer should proofread, and revise multiple times before you do someone else. Then another change was toknow others (and understand what is needed) have made suggestions.
The manuscript should be formatted correctly. Prior to the submission the author must be sure that the publishers' guidelines are strictly followed.
Producing a children's story ready for publication is possible, but the end product is the result of hard work. The first one is released is another story.
